Police are currently investigating a huge fraud conducted by two Cannes doctors and a local pharmacy. In the year 2005 alone, €240,000 was invoiced to the Secu incorrectly. Considering the chemist had been operating for thirty years, the full extent of the crime is likely to be far greater.
The crime was noticed when the pharmacy changed hands, and the new owner realised that there were all sorts of irregularites in the business. Many patients had unwittingly helped the fraud by leaving their Carte Vitale in the hands of the pharmacy.
