French President Nicolas Sarkozy has pledged nearly 750 million Euros towards digitizing France’s literary works, historical documents and audiovisual archives. The move is seen as a response to the French National Library’s discussions with Google to digitize its collections, which caused uproar in France. The talks were halted and Mr Sarkozy was quoted as saying. “We won’t let ourselves be stripped of our heritage to the benefit of a big company, no matter how friendly, big or American it is.”
